Winthrop University's SAACS conduct demos at Museum of York County for NCW

Six members of the Winthrop University Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society performed chemical demonstrations at the Museum of York County in Rock Hill, South Carolina on Sunday, October 22nd, 2006 as part of the region's  National Chemistry Week celebration.  Each student, or pair of students, performed a demonstration, including scientific observation and explanation approximately 5-6 times between the hours of 2:00 - 3:30 pm as visitors observed and/or participated.  Ms. Cindy Fried, Education Coordinator at the museum, advertised the demonstrations to all elementary and middle school teachers and administrators in York County.  Approximately 20-30 students, parents, and teachers attended the event.

Demonstrations and activities related to this year's theme, Your Home - It's all Built on Chemistry, were downloaded from the American Chemical Society resource page for National Chemistry Week.  The Carolina-Piedmont Section's financial support allowed the Student Affiliates to purhcase the necessary supplies to perform the demonstrations.  This is the sixth year of financial support for Winthrop's SAACS demonstrations at the museum.
